BORACAY 2013

Hello there. This post is actually a month old delayed, due to some other happenings. Anyway, we'll try to be as informative and coherent.

Boracay is a place I always hear since I was little. Dubbed as a sort of paradise and praised to high heavens. As popular as it is, I never really dreamed of going there. The reason being is that I don't really feel the need to.

Growing up in Davao and being proud bout it, I really thought that Boracay is over rated, it is just a "glorified" Samal. Pure hype, and sensationalized, and just happens to be visited and written a lot by many.

As much as I am proud and impressed with our very own Samal Island, especially on most of its (Samal) parts wherein it has yet to succumbed to commercialism, I was overwhelmed nonetheless by the beach of Boracay Island. To summed it up, calmer seas, cleaner waters, and finer sands.

We went there via Iloilo. This means that we took a 4 hour ride from Iloilo City, passing through Roxas, Capiz, and Kalibo, practically going through Panay Island. The good thing is that the van will not wait that it is full before it will leave the terminal, unlike what we're used to here.

Few info about the Boracay that I learned while there. Boracay is not the name of the beach or resort, but of the entire island. And you take off from Caticlan, approximately 4 km in linear length. From there on, you could choose which part of the coastline you want to stay or dip or do whatever.

There is also this strange classification on the area wherein it is referred through its station. There is this notion that hotels/ resort in Station 1 are expensive and that it sand are finer, Stn 2 are budget friendly, and station 3 is a wreck.

Well the sand is the same all through out, as expected since they are within the same coast line. The area wherein Station 2 though is quite lively or noisy depending on your preference, kinda having the perception that it is the happenings capital of the island. If you want to relax though, we suggest to stay at an area within Station 1.

Now what to do when you're there aside from swimming and sleeping :) ? A lot and the usual of course. What we did however was one that we have yet to do and that is Para sailing.

One thing of a let down personally for me however was the food. Maybe just a case of great expectations perhaps but I really felt that we're not getting the value for money on the food.

Nonetheless, the experience and the place is really something to behold. I also happen to celebrate my birthday in the island but my wife left her surprise bday gift at home. Hahaha!!!
